Catherine McLaughlin

Catherine is an Occupational Therapist with over 30 years experience, who has worked as a case manager for people with catastrophic injuries for over 14 years. She specialises in working with people with complex neurological challenges and as no two days are alike when it comes to case management she advised “Amongst other things, I has supported people to recruit and manage carers in their own homes, written and over seen the writing of care plans, advised on and sourced therapists to provide the best type of therapy to engage in to optimise outcomes, supported people and their families to negotiate with equipment providers. I have reviewed and made recommendations on housing adaptations as well as supporting people to create return to work or education plans and overseen following those through. I have arranged holidays abroad and relocated people from one country to another, ensuring they had the best medical and therapy support available to them”

The majority of her clinical work has been with people with neurological injuries like cerebral palsy, brain injury, strokes and spinal cord injuries. She has experience of working with people with complex orthopaedic conditions including amputations and she has experience of supporting people with post traumatic stress disorder. Catherine was the first Therapy Services Manager at the Wellington Hospital in London. She was part of the team who designed and commissioned the largest dedicated neurological rehabilitation unit there. She introduced the concept of outreach provision of specialist services across numerous other hospitals, including the Harley Street Clinic, Portland Hospital and London Bridge Hospital.

Catherine trained as an occupational therapist in Dublin, worked in Donegal, before working in England, the Middle East and back to England. She relocated home to Co. Fermanagh in 2011 and continues to provide a case management service to clients in London and the home counties. She provides a consultancy service to a specialist brain injury service in Galway.

Catherine is passionate about people being able to make choices for themselves in any circumstances and ensuring people have the right information available to them when making choices that affect their lives and the lives of those important to them.

She provides case management services in all Northern Ireland, Donegal, Cavan, Monaghan, Sligo, Leitrim, Mayo, Galway, WestMeath, Dublin, or within a 2.5 hour journey from her office base in Co. Fermanagh.
